Why is Game of Thrones relevant to us?

Okay, if you’re that that person who hasn’t seen a single episode of Game of Thrones, of course you wouldn’t have clicked this link and landed here. In case you’re here, try reading.

Game of Thrones or fondly known as GOT is one of those fantasy shows which changed the way we begin to perceive fantasy. As we usually say, this show has ice zombies, dragons, wargs and a three eyed raven (lol). But those are the things, which actually never mattered to me, except the dragons (maybe).

GOT though set in this fictional continent Westeros feels more real than any of those KJo movies set in India. The characters are all grey here, nobody is black or white. Everyone has an ulterior motive for their actions. Where do you see characters like these? Of course, in the real world! We can even connect with these characters on their actions as they’re stories are just as complicated as ours!

Let me give you my favourite example, Theon Greyjoy captures Winterfell betraying Robb Stark only to earn a name among his people. Most importantly, to prove to his father that he’s a capable son! We do so many things to prove our parents that we’re capable! Yes, that’s what he did. Except he messed up, just like most of us.

This is just the tip of the iceberg.

The next thing which I felt was properly shown was how the people who are too honourable and straight forward, die horribly. Of course, they’re virtues but one must be clever enough to know when they’re not! This is so beautifully portrayed here! Fan favourite Ned Stark loses his head due to this! This is where this show clearly told us the workings of this world!

Another thing, this show explained how Karma actually works! All those who thrived on others despair and sorrow had to go through worse, just like here! What goes around, eventually comes around!

Getting back, the show of course has things like dragons and white walkers but that’s not the essence here. It went to prove again and again, how complicated we human beings are! Doesn’t matter if we’re in this planet or in Westeros!

Even with a storm knocking at the door, we humans are busy with our own agendas and the politics we bring forth to achieve our goals! Even though, none of these things matter in the grander scheme of things. GOT showed this perfectly. Threats to end the world were never believed, instead everyone squabbled who would rule after this threat is over! Just like the times we’re living now, our world is on the brink of apocalypse, yet we argue over matters which don’t even matter! And hold on to things which we don’t even require. We're so caught up in these things.

GOT is relevant to us for all these reasons and more! It gave us hours of entertainment and we spent hours on making theories, this is why GOT is more relevant to us, fans than any other show.

Whatever may be the hype. If you haven’t watched GOT, you’ve not watched anything.
