Where are they now?

There are many things out there which creep us out. And the most popular of those things are, you guessed it right! Ghosts!
Almost everyone you know have had their own experience with the spirits. It could have been a sighting of a lonely women standing eerily in the corner of a dimly lit street or an encounter with a disappearing hitchhiker on a dark highway in the night or it could have been just weird noises being heard during the late hours.
Whatever, they might be, all of us have heard stories like that. We, in fact like to hear such stories, it makes us wonder about what could be the cause of all this! Could it really be a person who was thought to be dead but is back again as something else? Or is it just all in our heads?
Considering our advances in science and technology, we dismiss things like these as mumbo- jumbo and even try to convince the believers of such lore to discard their beliefs. But it always makes me wonder, how did it all begin? If there hadn’t been any ghosts as such, why are stories about them still floating around? Maybe, to sell us books and movies? Yeah, could be.
Mention of people coming back as spirits can be dated back to biblical times. Tons of myths exist on these things, and there are tons of stories on them too. Each culture in the world has their own version of a spirit. Keeping it all aside, taking a look from a layman’s perspective, who had this ingenious idea of a dead person coming back? Maybe, it all started in someone’s head! But, is there a possibility of some truth here?
Just searching “ghost” on google leads to an endless collection of stories based on them, so is there any truth in them? At least, one of the hundred stories might be true? Who knows?
Though, we try to convince ourselves with scientific proofs that ghosts don’t exist. Yet, we find ourselves in the same old place, with the same dreamy eyes when someone mentions a haunting.
Each and every ghost story is usually set in a very isolated place. The place is usually devoid of people and also proper lighting. The whole area is always silent as a grave except for the occasional howl of a wolf in the distance or the sound of footsteps is heard. And, in such places, the people of the story trapped.
The atmosphere, the whole setup and the folklore evokes the curiosity of anyone who just wants to believe and that’s why, the stories are popular. We love such stories because they happen to show the impossible happening within the frame of reality and often ends with us questioning our beliefs and convictions. Anything, which is strong enough to make us question our set of beliefs is enough to keep us hooked. Each ghost has its own ghost with its own story, which makes me further wonder of how much “Human” are these things? Nobody knows where we go after we die, maybe some return here and maybe some pass on to oblivion.
These things also bring out a strange kind of feeling within us, especially if something which strengthens the existence of spirits happens. A feeling of pure terror, realising that things beyond understanding and beyond the threads of reality happening. We do feel this, especially when something strange happens after watching a horror flick.
If you’re a sceptic reading this, I’m sorry used “we” a lot!
Belief in things beyond understanding can have a good effect on the imagination. Well, their stories at least make campfires livelier.
Though these spirits are dead, they continue to live on in our stories.
