“A ticket to the farthest place you know!” he said. The airline employee looked confused, “Sir?” she said looking at John’s eyes. “Well, I hope you understood what I just said, ticket to a place wherever you think is really far from here” he said angrily. “Sir are you alright?” she said looking at him, “Would you like a glass of water?”. John broke into tears and begged “Ticket please!”. The employee looked at John, from his eyes she could make out that this guy was not alright. She didn’t want to create a scene on the first week of her job, so she just looked at John once again. John was wiping his tears with his napkin; his eyes were red as the fiery pits of hell. “Sir, a ticket to Skiellge isles, would it be alright?” she said and then she pointed out at a map on the wall. Skiellge was right in the middle of the sea. Anything was fine for him. “That’ll do” he said.
John completed the procedures and he was on the flight in no time.
It had been a tough time for John of late. If only she had said Yes to me, he thought and cried again.
He opened up his phone and went through the texts once again. He didn’t deserve that and she couldn’t do this to him, he thought once more.
“If only I could change the things” he said.
“I’ve everything to start afresh and I’ll forget her in this new land and I’ll be alright soon.”
The plane landed and he set afoot in a strange new land he’d never been to before. John looked around and he felt alright as he got out of the airport. He had nowhere to go or knew no one there and he had just come here without even thinking for a bit. “What was I thinking?” he said to himself.
Nevertheless, John made it to a hotel and began to plan his new life in this place. “This place will never remind me of her” he said to himself.
That night was easy for John, having a big bank balance worked out quite well. He ate a little and he took a walk on the beach.
“She’ll never be back and I’ll thrive here.”
“I won’t even remember her face soon”
Just then, a girl passed by him and she accidentally bumped into him just like in the movies.
“Sorry!” she said and she went on talking on her phone in a weird voice.
John looked on and all he could see was the face of the girl he wanted to forget. John quickly ran back to his room and he turned on the TV. A song was playing on the TV and John listened to it and slowly he began to think of the good times with her.
The first coffee they had shared in Mars Café.
He changed the channel realising what he was doing.
A sad tune was playing in this channel, John’s mind continued its magic.
She refused his proposal bluntly and asked him to move on.
He changed the channel again.
There was a boxing match going on, John was Rocky and she was Creed.
He had loved her for 8 years and he didn’t deserve this, he thought.
He gave an uppercut and knocked her out.
He turned off the TV.
The TV was a black mirror. And John could see what he had become.
He had ungroomed hair and he had grown a thick beard. He was wearing a wrinkled shirt and his pants were dirty. He used to be a charming executive always dressed in his best. This wasn’t him. Not the one to run from petty problems of course.
He looked to his right and there she was sitting beside him. She had travelled all those miles with him and her face was bleeding due to the uppercut. John broke into tears.
John opened his phone once more, there were missed calls and countless messages from his family and his friends. The executive was resurrected.
The executive wiped his tears and he packed his bags.
But he left her right there and he went to the airport alone.
